Research Notes
Note: If this record is correct then it was sent to England with Capt. Thomas Gummersall Anderson & Capt. Robert Leake. If Jacob did join General John Burgoyne in 1777, it suggests that he participated in the Saratoga Campaign, which was an attempt by the British high command for North America to gain military control of the strategically important Hudson River valley during the American Revolutionary War. However, it ended in the surrender of the British army.
The King's Royal Regiment of New York also known as Johnson's Royal Regiment of New York, King's Royal Regiment, King's Royal Yorkers, and Royal Greens were one of the first Loyalist regiments, raised on June 19, 1776, in British Canada, during the American Revolutionary War. Members of the regiment were granted land along the St. Lawrence River valley and Bay of Quinte in modern Ontario and were among the first settlers of Upper Canada, later the province of Ontario in Canada. According to the Roll of the 2nd Battalion of the King's Royal Regiment of York (Bill Martin) there are multiple Smiths that are included in the 2nd Battalion roll (Jacob, John, William, Peter, Daniel, Stephen, Jacob, Michael, and Philip)
